“Clara Barton (1821-1912)”
http://uuquincy.org/projects/stamps/14clarabarton.htm
Hello Clara! My name is Edgar Allan Poe! I am a writer from the Industrialization Era. As I can see, you are a nurse from the Industrialization Era. Right off the bat, we have something in common. Also, I think we may have similiarities in our creative processes. You seem to be very passionate about your work as a nurse. I am very passionate about my job as a writer. I am also an author of many short stories. We worked hard for our places in our positions and we might not have gotten all of the recognition we deserved, but we sure did work for it!
ReplyDeleteI think that even though we do have similarities in the creative field, we certainly do have a lot of differences. First off, the biggest difference is that you are a nurse and I am a writer. You were with people most of the time and I was to myself. When you write, you almost have to be selfish and secluded from the world to have your mind concentrated on your work. You, on the other hand, were the exact opposite. You didn't put yourself first. You made sure people were safe and okay. I respect you greatly for that.
This era in time was quite a busy one for people! Cities were so over populated because factories were opening and businesses were starting. Industries were becoming more and more full with workers. That's why we are so unique, my friend. We were people who weren't just out in the city, looking for a normal job. We had our own thing going on, you know? Your job is needed to the extremes. And me, I knew what I loved doing, so I worked for it. I never got paid a lot, but I sure did write enough.
The Industrializatione Era influenced my work completely. No one cared about writers. People were looking for real jobs in factories. No one really wanted to be a writer. And no one wanted to pay a writer, that's for sure. During this time period, it was very glum for me. I had to deal with a lot of loneliness and death. You can see this through my "gothic" writing. But like i was telling you, I never made too much money. The time era that I was in with my job took most of that away from me.
It was extremely splendid talking to you, Ms. Barton.
Please write back.
Sincerely,
Edgar Allan Poe.
